Labello Press accepts short stories containing a maximum of 12,000 words for our annual anthology, "Gem Street." The theme is open but we do not accept Children's, YA or poetry.

Stories must be previously unpublished, electronically or in print.
Any entry submitted that does not follow this will be automatically disqualified.

We accept simultaneous submissions but please advise us immediately if your story is accepted for publication elsewhere.

Stories can be from anywhere in the world but must be written in English.

Please submit your story in standard Times New Roman -12 pt - single spacing and do not include any added embellishments.

On a separate cover sheet please include the following:

Your name
Full address
E-mail address
Contact number(s)
Story word count
Short but detailed bio (if your story is chosen this will be included in the anthology)
No links to Twitter, Facebook, Websites or blogs please

Labello Press will hold first publication rights for six months after publication of "Gem Street" after which time all stories are free to enjoy new homes. Copyright remains with the author at all times.

All authors included in "Gem Street" will receive one of the Memorial Prizes as outlined on the Leonard A. Koval Memorial Prize page.




2012 Guest Judge: Bryan Murray
is a well-known Irish actor. He is currently playing Bob Charles in the soap opera Fair City. As a stage actor he began his career in Dublin at the Abbey Theatre where he appeared in over 50 productions. He has appeared many times at the Gate Theatre in Dublin, most recently in Celebration by Harold Pinter for the 2010 Dublin Theatre Festival. In London he has been a member of The Royal National Theatre, The Royal Shakespeare Company and has been in many productions in London and the West End.
He is widely known for his extensive television work which includes Fitz in Strumpet City, Flurry Knox in The Irish RM, Shifty in Bread (for which he won BBC TV Personality of the Year), Harry Cassidy in Perfect Scoundrels, Trevor Jordache in Brookside. In the US he presented the Irish Spring commercial on network TV for six years, the award winning Pioneer Press commercials for three years and hosted the St Patrick’s Day Parade for PBS Television.
Most recently he presented the highly acclaimed documentary for TV3The Tenements, a four part series charting the rise and fall of the tenements in Dublin from the 1800s to the mid-1970s.He co-created and co-devised the ITV series Perfect Scoundrels for three years. He has co-written two musicals performed at the Abbey Theatre, Dublin, and Irish Theatre Company Dublin; A Happy Go Likeable Man, after Moliere, and Thieves Carnival, after Anouilth.
